Estyn
Dear families,
I am delighted to share our most recent Estyn inspection report with you following their inspection of our school in June 2022. The report highlighted the extremely high standards of education that is provided at St Mary's School. We were all so pleased that the Estyn inspectors commented on how welcoming the school was to them and other visitors. Wellbeing continues to be at the heart of St Mary's school and our school has a 'caring and compassionate ethos'. Estyn noted that "highly positive relationships between pupils and adults are a strong feature of the school that contribute very effectively to pupils' levels of happiness and sense of wellbeing" and that "the strong nurturing environment of St Mary's ensures that pupils have a deep sense of belonging."
Year 6 as ambassadors of the school highlighted the strengths within our educational standards and our Welsh identity. One particular element that has had a "strong positive impact" is the school's development of the Welsh language, following our participation in the Welsh Sabbatical Teacher programme. The school was invited by Estyn to develop a case study on their development in this area, which is displayed on the Estyn website, to illustrate best practice to other schools. Estyn said that there was "a strong Welsh ethos in the school", that "teachers incorporate the Welsh language into their lessons to a high standard" and "lessons are bilingual and teachers confidently and naturally move from English to Welsh."
I would like to take this opportunity to say a heartfelt thank you to all our families, staff, pupils and Governing Body for being instrumental in the development of our school. It's lovely to see our community going from strength to strength and it is very clear that 'staff, Governors and "pupils are very proud of their school." (Estyn 2022)
